How can founders effectively encourage an investor to take the lead?

Create FOMO, and have a high degree of self-confidence. Investing is as much an emotional decision as it is a rational one.
Jameson Hsu — Co-Founder of Mochi Media
Speed is an entrepreneur's greatest ally when trying to close a round of funding. Deals that take too long to close end up with investors that lose interest. Lining up investor meetings close together and moving quickly to close is the best way to surface a lead. Hot deals usually have investors that are eager to lead and get the deal done. If the deal is dragging on and taking a long time to close then you have to resort to giving favorable terms to one investor to encourage someone to take the lead.
